LANSING, Mich. - The city of Belding has been awarded grant funding for a local road repair project, receiving praise from State Sen. Rick Outman. The grant program aims to address and fund critical infrastructure projects across the state.
"It is important that we make these long-term investments toward maintaining and improving our local infrastructure," said Sen. Outman. "The grant program is a good opportunity for the state and local governments to work together."
The specific project in Belding involves the resurfacing of Bridge Street from State Street (M-44) to Ellis Street. This will include milling the existing surface, resurfacing with new asphalt, replacing the curb and gutters, and adding new pavement markings.
Bridge Street serves as a crucial all-season roadway connecting the state trunkline, M-44, to downtown Belding, schools, parks, and industrial areas. Commercial vehicles also heavily rely on this segment of Bridge Street to transport materials for the manufacturing of automotive parts, furniture, and appliances.
"The road condition of Bridge Street is declining, and these funds will make the much-needed repairs possible," Sen. Outman emphasized. Michigan families and businesses depend on quality roads, and this project will contribute to improving the overall infrastructure.
The total cost of the project is $483,600, with $375,000 coming from state funding and $108,600 from the city of Belding.
This road repair project is part of a broader effort to enhance Michigan's infrastructure and ensure the safety and efficiency of transportation systems. To learn more about the program and its impact, visit www.Michigan.gov/TEDF.
