State Representative Curt VanderWall has been appointed as the chair of the House Health Policy Committee by Speaker Matt Hall. The committee is tasked with addressing public health issues, health professionals, mental health and wellness, and access to healthcare.
VanderWall expressed his commitment to improving healthcare in Michigan. "I look forward to working with my colleagues on the committee to find solutions to the most pressing issues facing our state’s health care landscape," he stated. He emphasized listening to citizens and stakeholders as a key approach.
Previously, VanderWall chaired the Senate Health Policy Committee and served as Republican vice chair of the Health Policy Committee during the 2023-24 term when Democrats held control. Now, with Republicans leading, he anticipates guiding the committee effectively.
In past legislative terms, VanderWall introduced bills aimed at increasing access to opioid response drugs and addressing shortages of speech pathologists in Michigan.
Apart from his role in health policy, VanderWall will serve on other committees including Finance, Government Operations, and Natural Resources and Tourism.
The House Health Policy Committee's meetings are scheduled for Wednesdays at 9 a.m. in room 519 of the Anderson House Office Building. Meetings can be accessed online by local residents who can also subscribe for notices through the Legislature’s website.
