If your oaks are suddenly dropping twigs, check the end of the twig for the presence of a small oval hole. Fallen twigs at this time of the year are usually the work of the oak twig pruner (OTP). The OTP cuts through the twig from the inside, but leaves the bark intact. Control is easy….simply pick up and destroy the twigs that litter your ground. Since the life cycle is completed inside the fallen twigs, eliminating the litter interrupts the twig pruner beetle’s life cycle so they never have a chance to mature and reproduce.
