Mecosta County Youth Academy Information

Thank you for your interest in the Mecosta County Youth Academy.   Please click here, for the application for attendance. Thanks to the generous donations from the community, there is no charge to attend the academy. All lunches will be provided.

Who can attend the academy?

• Any boy or girl aged 12-14

• Student must have a minimum 2.0 GPA and be in good standing at their school.

• The student must possess good moral character.

• The student must possess the desire to learn and lead.

The academy will take place July 18th-22nd from 8:00 A.M.- 4:00P.M. at the Big Rapids Police Department, 435 N. Michigan Ave. Please make sure you will be able to attend all days of the academy and the informational meet and greet on Sunday, July 17th from 2:00 P.M.-4:00 P.M.

At the back of the application, there is a section that is to be completed by the student. We would like them to write a short essay explaining why they have applied to the Mecosta County Youth Academy. Also, please provide a copy of the student’s latest report card. Finally, we are asking that the student provide a letter of recommendation from an adult other than a family member. Examples are a coach, teacher, youth group leader, etc.

Completed applications for attendance, along with the signed waiver of liability, report card, and letter of recommendation should be turned in to Officer William Sell at the Big Rapids Police Department, 435 N. Michigan Ave., Big Rapids, wsell@bigrapidsdps.org. Applications are due no later than 4:00 P.M. on Friday, May 13, 2021.
