Rep. Michele Hoitenga (R-Manton) submitted a letter last month to the Advice and Consent Committee requesting a hearing of George Heartwell.
Hoitenga's letter was signed by 27 of her legislative colleagues and asked the Advice and Consent Committee think about rejecting the appointment of Heartwell as Chairman to the Natural Resources Commission.
"Many people have reached out asking me to help stop the appointment of Mr. Heartwell as Chairman to the Natural Resources Commission," Hoitenga said in a Facebook post about her letter. "I have done THOROUGH research, verses [sic] relying on rumors and articles, on Mr. Heartwell and came to the conclusion he does not represent the views of the people I serve."
Hoitenga also said Heartwell is "not a good fit" for chairman.
"I hope the governor can look beyond party politics and just appoint the best person for the job. In addition to experience and academic credentials, the appointment must be able to relate to Michigan hunters and fishermen and women," Hoitenga said in her post. "I’m looking forward to our governor choosing a more appropriate chairperson and moving forward."
