Hard work really does pay off. The City of Niles was awarded a portion of the $83.8 million in statewide grants as part of the Revitalization and Placemaking Program on September 7. These grants can be used to jumpstart investments in office, commercial, and community spaces as well as individual public space projects. Niles and Benton Harbor will receive $2.6 million to support real estate reinvestment that will contribute to our downtown economy and appeal to all crowds.
These funds were first introduced to address the rising vacancies noticed in Michigan's downtown communities. Included in the public space projects are also measures for public infrastructure improvements to support a thriving downtown.
We are so excited to share this news with all of you. Special thanks go out to Lisa Croteau, Niles Main Street DDA Director, for the tireless work that went into securing these funds.
