Just a reminder from Mason County Road Commission

Reminder

City of Scottville issued the following announcement on Mar 31.

Just a reminder that SPRING WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS ARE STILL IN EFFECT. As the frost comes out of the ground, it creates very soft roads and very MUDDY roads.. especially when it is raining!!  We are getting calls daily regarding the conditions of various roads throughout the county.  Please understand that we are doing all we can to keep the roads in the best condition possible.

When the spring thaw is happening and there is so much moisture in the roads, all blading will do is mix the water on the surface with the dirt underneath.  This just makes MORE MUD.  We battle mother nature every spring in this regard and the rain is only making it worse, so please help us out by staying off the roads with heavy vehicles, equipment and machinery. If you need to get somewhere with a heavy load, please call the office so that we can work out a plan to get you there while minimizing the road damage. All other vehicles - please use paved roads whenever possible to reach your destination, to help reduce the amount of rutting on the gravels.

As always, continue calling in your concerns to our office.  We do have a road supervisor check out each report, but please understand, we are limited on what we can do to combat Mother Nature as the frost comes out of the ground.

In the case of an emergency, dial 911 if you need help. They work closely with our on-call staff in the case of a road related emergency.
