City of Detroit issued the following announcement on Mar 18.

Detroit Fire Commissioner unveils nearly $7 million in new fire engines and ambulances

  • New equipment includes six fire engines and ten ambulances
  • City continues to replace the aging fleet, improving reliability and response times
Media availability with Detroit Fire Commissioner Chuck Simms, who will unveil brand new equipment and explain how the City of Detroit has made huge progress over the past eight years. The announcement caps a remarkable turnaround of the city's once beleaguered fire department fleet. In 2014, we had fire trucks barely maintained and only a half dozen ambulances to serve the entire city. We have gone from an aging fleet and long response times to a fleet whose average age is only 3.5 years and response times are in line with the national average.
