City of Detroit issued the following announcement on Dec 21.
Mayor Mike Duggan announced today that he has appointed Tim Slusser as Chief of Mobility Innovation. The Chief of Mobility Innovation works to direct the development of mobility initiatives and policies within the City of Detroit.
In his new role, Slusser will work across multiple city departments to coordinate cleaner, more accessible, and more equitable mobility solutions for Detroit residents and visitors alike.
Prior to joining the City of Detroit, Tim served as Director of Smart Mobility Initiatives for NextEnergy, where he led mobility programs, including the installation of a DOE-funded 400 kW DC fast charging pilot and the development of first-of-their-kind high-flow hydrogen fueling components for heavy-duty vehicle applications. Slusser has worked extensively in the renewable energy and automotive sectors with particular emphasis on vehicle electrification. He helped attract the first $6 billion of electric vehicle and energy storage investments in the State of Michigan and facilitated the early industry partnerships that formed the Power Electronics Industry Collaborative (PEIC).
“Detroit has been a leader of innovation for well over a hundred years. Both the Detroit Center for Innovation and Ford's Michigan Central Station campus are going to create a whole new range of opportunity for the talent we have in our city,” said Mayor Duggan. “Tim joining the administration couldn’t have come at a more exciting time as we work to build on our history of mobility innovation and to provide more equitable access to these opportunities.”
Slusser aims to develop a stronger ecosystem in Detroit which enables more pilots and demonstrations of innovative mobility solutions for all Detroiters. This will include helping companies get the city support they need such as permitting, community engagement, and helping to cultivate fruitful public-private partnerships.

Slusser is a Michigan native and graduated from the University of Michigan, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Energy Systems Engineering
