City of Evart issued the following announcement on Nov 23.
Whoo hoo!
Happy #CLGMonday! Today we visit the City of Evart, Michigan, a new Certified Local Government (#CLG) in 2021.
Located in central Michigan surrounded by forested landscapes, the City of Evart was officially founded in 1871 as a town. As the area grew and production in timber increased, the town became organized as a city by 1930. The city is an eponym to settler Perry Oliver Everts and underwent spelling changes until the current “Evart” was settled upon. The first lumber mill in Evart was built in May of 1871 and the city was an efficient site for floating timber down the Muskegon River. The small-town community experience is an important part of Evart’s heritage. Today the City of Evart is prominent with historic spaces including military memorials and other historic sites that promote preservation.
