WEST MICHIGAN TOURIST ASSOCIATION: Downtown Holland Announces Upcoming Holiday Plans

Announcement

West Michigan Tourist Association issued the following announcement on Oct. 7.

Downtown Holland has made the difficult decision to cancel three popular holiday events this upcoming season, but is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for the entire community to be involved in bringing a little holiday magic to Downtown Holland! At their regularly scheduled Board Meeting last week Thursday, October 2, the Principal Shopping District (PSD) Board of Directors made the difficult decision to cancel this year's Holiday Open House, Parade of Lights and Up On The Rooftops holiday events out of concern for the health and safety of our community.

Two other holiday events, Shop ‘Til You Drop and the Shopping Jam will still take place, but will be expanded into week-long shopping and dining promotions in an effort to prevent large crowds at one time. Shop ‘Til You Drop will take place from Friday, November 13 – Friday, November 20 and the Shopping Jam will run from Saturday, December 12 – Saturday, December 19 in keeping with the original event dates. Downtown Holland will still be hosting a Small Business Saturday promotion as well, in addition to a fun new 12 Days of Christmas promotion. Details about each upcoming holiday promotion with be announced at a later date.

With the unfortunate cancellation of a number of holiday events, the Downtown Holland is hoping to add a little extra holiday magic to this year. A fundraising effort was launched today to facilitate the purchase of brightly lit, 20-foot Christmas tree for Downtown Holland that can be enjoyed by the community this year and for many years to come. Downtown Holland is hoping to get enough financial support from corporate donors and community members to make this dream come true!

Corporate supporters and members of the public can visit the Downtown Holland Christmas Tre fundraising website at www.patronicity.com/downtowntree for more details or to make a donation towards this effort. Cash and check donations will also be accepted (Checks made out to the City of Holland) and mailed to Downtown Holland at 150 West 8th Street, Holland, MI 49423. Every donation helps!
