Tim and Sherry Magnusson, both alumni of Central Michigan University (CMU), have made a significant contribution to their alma mater. The couple has donated $2 million to support CMU Athletics and the College of Business Administration.

"The Magnussons have deep roots in CMU and this generous gift is a testament to their commitment to helping students succeed in their academic journeys and beyond," said CMU President Bob Davies.

The Magnussons met in high school in Manistique, Michigan, and graduated from CMU together in 1994. Tim studied business and German, later co-founding Garda Capital Partners, where he serves as chief investment officer. Sherry studied business administration and marketing before focusing on raising their children and volunteering.

Jennifer Cotter, vice president for advancement at CMU, praised the couple's dedication: "Tim and Sherry have such passion for helping CMU students and have creatively used their gifts to benefit areas close to their hearts."

The donation will enhance opportunities for finance students at the College of Business Administration. Chris Moberg, the college dean, emphasized the impact: "Tim and Sherry have ensured the next decade of finance students will have access to experiential learning opportunities."

Previously, the Magnussons established several funds supporting study abroad programs, internships, and professorships within the college. Tim also serves on the Dean's Advisory Board.

In addition to academics, the couple's love for sports led them to contribute towards student-athlete health and well-being at CMU. Sherry stated: "It isn't easy to be a D1 student-athlete and we want to see student-athletes succeed."

Amy Folan from CMU Athletics highlighted their role in funding new initiatives: "The Magnussons are incredible supporters... Their gift will help fund game-changing programs."

Reflecting on his time at CMU, Tim credited financial aid with enabling his education: "The Centralis scholarship was a life changer." Sherry added her own experience as a first-generation college student needing work-study support.

Both remain active advocates for CMU, encouraging others about its benefits.
