Central Michigan University has announced the inductees for its 2024 Marcy Weston Athletics Hall of Fame. Among the notable figures being honored are Eric Fisher, a former football player at CMU who later enjoyed a decade-long career in the NFL, and Tom Borrelli, a respected wrestling coach.
The induction ceremony is scheduled for Friday, September 20, at McGuirk Arena. It will take place one day before the CMU-Ball State football game at Kelly/Shorts Stadium. The event is open to the public and free of charge. The inductees will also be recognized during the football game on September 21.
Joining Fisher and Borrelli in this year's class are Chad Pleiness, known for his contributions to both baseball and basketball; gymnast Sarah Dame; track and field/cross country runner Ryan Watson; and volleyball player Kaitlyn Schultz.
"We are extremely proud and honored to introduce these great Chippewa athletes into our hall of fame," stated Amy Folan, Zyzelewski Family Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics. "Each inductee had a fantastic collegiate career at Central Michigan; not only as athletes but as students as well. This group represents the best of all Chippewa athletes."
Tom Borrelli's coaching career spanned from 1991 to 2024, during which he led CMU to numerous championships and accolades. He was awarded MAC Coach of the Year 15 times and guided teams that frequently competed against top programs like Penn State and Iowa.
Sarah Dame made her mark in gymnastics by winning several championships and leading CMU to significant finishes in NCAA regional competitions. Eric Fisher achieved prominence by becoming the first Mid-American Conference player selected as the No. 1 overall pick in an NFL draft when he was chosen by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2013.
Chad Pleiness excelled in both baseball and basketball during his time at CMU, earning multiple honors before being drafted by Major League Baseball's Toronto Blue Jays. Kaitlyn Schultz became a trailblazer for CMU volleyball with her consistent performances leading to all-conference honors four times.
Ryan Watson earned All-America honors in cross country while leading his team to various championship titles during his tenure at CMU.
