Central Michigan University officially opened its 2024 athletic season by hosting the annual Fire Up Fest pep rally on Wednesday night outside the John G. Kulhavi Events Center in Mount Pleasant, Mich.

The event featured ice cream, tacos, and pizza for attendees, which included students, student-athletes, faculty, administrators, and community members. Various yard games, inflatables, and display tables were set up in the grass outside the Kulhavi Center.

CMU President Bob Davies initiated the presentation by energizing the crowd. Zyzelewski Family Vice President/Director of Athletics Amy Folan introduced several student-athletes including women's basketball's Tamara Ortiz, men's basketball's Anthony Pritchard, men's golf's Jeffrey Andrus, lacrosse's Sadie Hinkle, and gymnastics' Luciana Alvarado-Reid. Folan encouraged fans to attend upcoming athletic events.

Members of various sports teams such as lacrosse, men's golf, baseball, women's golf, softball, gymnastics, men's basketball, and women's basketball spoke to the crowd urging support for their upcoming games. The Snake Charmers also addressed attendees about their group. CMU cheerleaders and dance team members performed in-game routines.

Central Michigan opens its 2024 football season tonight when it hosts Central Connecticut State at 7 p.m. at Kramer/Deromedi Field at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
