Central Michigan student-athletes supported the Greater Mount Pleasant community in 2023-24 by participating in 239 volunteer events, amassing a total of 3,735 community service hours. This contribution generated an economic impact of $118,787 for the local area.

All 17 Chippewa athletics teams were involved, with 90 percent of CMU student-athletes (453 out of 504) serving in various capacities.

"These numbers are indicative of the type of student-athletes we have at Central Michigan," Zyzelewski Family Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Amy Folan said. "We are extremely proud of what our student-athletes have been able to accomplish in the Mount Pleasant community this year. They have made a tremendous impact in a variety of local areas including the civic and community realm, education sector, along with children and youth."

"All of these activities enhance the lives of our student-athletes and better prepare them for life after CMU," she added.

Significant events during the year included the Fire Up Canned Food Drive, where CMU student-athletes donated 1,635 cans of food; the Trunk or Treat event attended by 92 student-athletes; and Habitat for Humanity projects totaling 372 hours of service. Other key organizations that benefited include the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe (74 hours), PEAK After School Program (361 hours), Mount Pleasant Public Schools, and Isabella Community Soup Kitchen.

The top five performing Central Michigan teams were women's soccer (1,047 hours), lacrosse (960 hours), softball (658 hours), women's cross country/track and field (205 hours), and volleyball (113 hours).
