Planning for Snow Days
It's that time of year for making snowmen and having snow days! With potential snow days being right around the corner, we ask that families prepare by making plans for childcare in case school is cancelled.
As a district, we aim to make a decision of whether to remain in session or close school by 5:30 a.m. This is due to how early our bus routes have to leave as well as how early our zero hour classes start at the high school. It also takes time for the messaging system to send out the message to parents. The goal is to have parents receive the message by 6:00 a.m. We typically avoid making decisions based on forecasts the night before because oftentimes forecasts can be incorrect.
Please keep in mind that weather conditions may change between 5:30 a.m. when the decision is made and when school starts at 7:50 or 8:00 a.m. Our decisions are based on what the school buses and personal vehicles can safely navigate. Also, road conditions may differ depending on where you live in the district. If you drive your children to school or have high schoolers who can drive, and you do not feel that it is safe to drive to school, please keep your children home.
At this time, we do not plan on having classes virtually if the schools are closed for any reason. If we have more than six days of school closures, we will revisit this and consider holding classes virtually.
Thank you for your continued support of the Ludington Area School District!
