Tickets for Michigan high school sporting events will be a little easier to come by as an increase in maximum attendance has been approved by the state for both outdoor and indoor events.

The Michigan High School Athletic Association announced new guidelines that will go into effect Friday, Oct. 9, Pioneer reported. Those hosting athletic events outdoors with fixed seating will be allowed to fill 30% of the venue. For indoor events, venues can seat 20% of their capacity, with those in Regions 6 and 8 allowed to fill up to 25% of the venue. Concessions will not be allowed to open in the indoor venues, as stated in the executive order. The announcement comes on the heels of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s announcement to amend Executive Order 183, which was originally responsible for fixing seating guidelines.

Region 6 includes the following counties: Manistee, Wexford, Missaukee, Roscommon, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Crawford, Leelanau, Antrim, Otsego, Montmorency, Alpena, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Presque Isle and Emmet. Region 8 includes the following counties: Gogebic, Ontonagon, Houghton, Keweenaw, Iron, Baraga, Dickinson, Marquette, Menominee, Delta, Alger, Schoolcraft, Luce, Mackinac and Chippewa.

The guidelines have been imposed on the state in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, with social distancing taken into account to prevent the possible spread of the virus at a sporting event.
