Cost of college went up for all students at West Shore Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 6.7 percent for 2018-19 at West Shore Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Michigan residents paid $4,466 to attend the two-year public institution in both the 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.

Non-resident students would have paid 30.1 percent more than residents this year, or $5,810. Non-resident tuition and fees were unchanged from $5,810 in 2017-18.

About 99 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Michigan residents.

Data shows 88 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 98 students received grants or scholarships totaling $508,013 and 9 students took out student loans totaling more than $40,056.

Including all undergraduates (1,042), 873 students used grants or scholarships totaling $2.9 million, and 160 students took out $700,948 in federal student loans.
